Paddy Power title sponsor of The Bingham Cup |
John McWeeney, Paddy Power, Richie Whyte and Gordon d’Arcy At the launch of the Paddy Power sponsorship of the Bingham Cup – the gay rugby world Cup in the Front Lounge on Tuesday evening were a number of high profile Leinster, ex- Leinster and Irish internationals and pundits including Gordon d’Arcy, Emmett Byrne, Liam Toland , John McWeeney, and Peter Coyle.
Paddy Power and Barry Murphy's 'Gerhardt'
MCing the event, Apres Match’s Barry Murphy as the German character ‘Gerhardt’ had the capacity crowd in stitches as he mercilessly ribbed the speeches from Paddy Power and Tournament Director Richie Whyte, who was later praised by Dorothy Collins of the IRFU Leinster Branch for securing the biggest international amateur rugby event in the world next year for Dublin.
Barry Joyce (Warriors Chairman) and Ciaran O'Sullivan (Warriors Captain)
Also present in great numbers were members of the host club, The Emerald Warriors including the reigning Mr Gay Ireland, Barry Meegan.

Welcome to The Bingham Cup 2008 |
|
Welcome to the new Bingham Cup 2008 website. Since winning the bid to host the Bingham Cup 2008 we have been working hard to put together a tournament focused on fair competition, rugby skills development, value for money, camaraderie and having the craic. We are introducing a number of innovations to the Bingham Cup, the most obvious being the campus approach. We have partnered with Dublin City University (DCU) to provide rugby grounds, accommodation, food and The Helix theatre as our opening party venue and all located within a maximum of 10 minutes walk of each other. On the 20th of August we will be open for Early Group bookings of Registration & Accommodation Packages. In the meantime we suggest you have a look around the site to familiarise yourself with what's on offer. Club liaisons should contact us at

letting us know which club they represent. While tournament registration is not expected to be over subscribed we do suggest that teams who wish to stay in DCU Accommodation book early as demand is expected to be high and supply is limited.
